Its main function is to accommodate all the engine oil required by the engine's lubrication system and, through its large surface area in contact with the air, help dissipate the oil. It also integrates the oil pump's oil strainer and oil drain bolt inside, which are indispensable foundations for the entire engine lubrication system.

Introduction

dry sump is the lower part of the crankcase, also known as the lower crankcase. It is located at the bottom of the engine, can be disassembled and serves as the casing for sealing the crankcase as an oil storage tank. Most of the products are made by stamping thin steel plates. Those with more complex shapes are generally cast with cast iron or aluminum alloy. It is equipped with an oil flow stabilizing baffle to prevent oil surface vibration and splashing caused by the jolting of the diesel engine, thereby avoiding the sedimentation of impurities in the lubricating oil. There is an oil dipstick on the side for checking the oil level and storing engine oil. When the engine stops running, some of the engine oil will flow back to the oil pan due to gravity. After the engine starts, the oil pump will deliver the engine oil to all the lubrication parts of the engine. Under normal circumstances, most of the engine oil remains in the oil pan.

Types of oil pans

The oil pan can be divided into a wet oil pan and a dry oil pan. The wet oil pan is used to seal the crankcase as the outer shell of the oil tank, to seal the crankcase to prevent impurities from entering the oil tank, and to collect and store the lubricating oil flowing back from the friction surfaces, dissipate some of the heat, and prevent the lubricating oil from oxidizing.
