Selection of drilling diameter for expansion bolts

There are many types of expansion bolts, but no matter which one, their working principles are roughly the same. Expansion screws are composed of components such as screws and expansion tubes. Expansion bolts have certain requirements for the size of the bottom hole, otherwise they cannot play their fixing role.

For depth, the length of the expansion bolt is generally 5mm plus, which is to prevent impurities from falling into the hole and the bolt cannot be fully driven in.

For the size of the hole, the M6 series drilling diameter is 8mm, the M8 series drilling diameter is 12mm, the M10 series drilling diameter is 13mm, the M12 series drilling diameter is 15mm, and the M16 series drilling diameter is 20mm.

Once the expansion bolt is installed, it is difficult to pull it out. Therefore, we should try to determine the position and drill the hole before installation. To ensure that no secondary rework is required.

How to use expansion bolts

When using, follow the following steps:

Drilling: First use an impact drill (hammer) to drill a hole of the same size as the expansion bolt on the fixed body.

Installation: Install the bolt and expansion tube together into the drilled hole.

Tightening: Tighten the nut to expand the bolt, expansion tube, mounting part and fixed body into one.

The specific principle is: there is a big head at the tail of the bolt, and a round tube slightly larger than the diameter of the bolt is placed outside the bolt, and there are several openings at the tail. When the bolt is tightened, the tail of the big head is brought into the open tube, which expands the tube to achieve the purpose of expansion, thereby firmly fixing the bolt to the ground or wall.

How to choose expansion bolts

1. Choose expansion bolts produced by regular manufacturers.

2. When assembling the expansion cap, use a torque wrench to tighten it according to the specified standard to prevent excessive or insufficient torque.

3. During each maintenance, the newly replaced expansion bolts should be inspected. Attention should be paid to whether there are cracks or dents on the bolt head, guide part, and thread parts, and whether the thread tooth shape and pitch are abnormal. If there are any abnormalities, they should be resolutely not used.

4. If it is a vehicle or mechanical equipment, it should be maintained periodically and checked when there are abnormal noises during operation.
